Squat or Sit: Which is for Better Colon Health

A few months ago, I attended SOHO, a natural products expo, in Orlando where I had the pleasure of meeting Robert “Bobby” Edwards, the creator of Squatty Potty. https://www.positivehealthwellness.com/pain-relief/stop-snoring-complete-guide/ What exactly is a Squatty Potty? It is essentially a contoured stool that has been designed to help put your body into a squatting position for better, quicker and more complete elimination. When it is not in use, it fits nicely under the base of the toilet. Squatty Potty comes in two different sizes (7” and 9”) and three different styles (bamboo, eco, and traditional) depending on the size of your toilet and your own personal style. Also, all the sizes and styles are all reasonably priced, starting as low as $34.95. They are sturdy and all come with rubber pads on the bottom to prevent slippage.

The idea of squatting while using the bathroom was not foreign to me. We had experienced this ancient style of using the bathroom while traveling through parts of southeast asia. What I did find surprising is that the squatting position has been commonplace worldwide except for individuals with disabilities and royalty until the mid 19th century and is still common practice in many parts of Asia, Africa, and even parts of Europe.

Squatting is unfamiliar to most Americans, so I ask Bobby how and why he came up with the idea? Apparently, his mom was having potty problems so Bobby and his dad began researching ways to help alleviate her discomfort. “We discovered that individuals who sit in the “squatting position” while defecating can actually alleviate many of todays modern colon problems,” according to Bobby. The Edwards family began brain storming ideas and after many modifications to the current designs, the Squatty Potty was born. Not only did it help his mom, but after giving many prototypes away as gifts, they discovered that it was great for others.

Bobby asked if I’d like to try one so I could discover firsthand all the benefits of the Squatty Potty. Bobby said, “It has the ability to help or solve five common problems: constipation, hemorrhoids, prevent colon disease, prevent urinary infections, and improve pelvic floor issues.” Everyone who knows me well, knows that I preach the importance of a healthy, happy colon so of course, I said yes! Research has shown that many of the health problems westerns experience today is due to a sluggish digestive track and poor colon health. By improving the health of our digestive track through proper diet and regular elimination, modern problems such as hemorrhoids, chronic constipation, and colon issues can be a thing of the past.

After about six weeks of “test driving” the bamboo Squatty Potty, here are some of the things I discovered. It is very easy to use and get used to. It gently raises your knees above your hips, which straightens your colon making elimination much faster, easier and complete. What do I mean by straightens the colon? See diagram below:
